Master's of Arts: Musical Performance

This year I am studying for an MA in Musical Performance. Hopefully this qualification, as well as the training that comes with it, will boost my employability with professional orchestras such as the Halle or City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. Within this year I am required to perform in two recitals, one lasting around 30-40 mins and the final recital lasting up to 1 hour, 10 minutes. The repertoire I'm preparing includes Brahms' Clarinet sonata in F minor, Bach's Cello Suite No. 5 in C minor and two concerto's by Walton and Stamitz. As well as the performances, I have two research modules, the first of which is marked as a portfolio including a book and cd review and a recording by myself. The second research module is concentrating on the repertoire, for example, studying different performer's interpretation of the pieces or the historical and social context of the works.
